What do you think Wednesday . . .

Cougar Cougar (definition compiled from Urban Dictionary) A slang term used to describe an attractive older woman, usually between thirty and fifty years-old, who prefers dating much younger men—sometimes called huntresses seeking prey.

I am not a big fan of labels. They’re a “fast-food” method of identifying particular groups of people—Americans love all things fast and easy;  it gives us more time to tweet and do other important stuff.  Recently, one of my best friends called me a cougar. It was a compliment…or not.

I have certainly paid enough dues to belong to this “hot” new group:  I have the wisdom of a woman who’s lived a bit; I exercise my mind and body regularly; and I have lots of younger friends (I do not date younger men, since I’m married a man who is not my junior).

Complement or not, being called “a cougar” sounds rather vulgar. I mean, is comparison to a predatory feline a good thing?

The Cougar…compliment or slam?
